Antibiotics for Acne Treatment

There are many different antibiotics for acne treatment. These antibiotics can be divided into those which are applied on the skin also known as topical antibiotics and those which are taken by mouth and are also known as systemic antibiotics.


Examples of topical antibiotics for acne treatment include:
!. Erythromycin
2. Clindamycin
3. Sodium sulfacetamide
These antibiotics are used for mild to moderate inflammatory acne since they have anti-inflammatory properties and are also effective against the acne causing bacteria Propionibacterium acnes.




Examples for systemic antibiotics for acne treatment include:
1. Tetracycline
2. Doxycyline
3. Minocycline
4. Erythromycin 
These antibiotics are also effective in controlling the acne causing Propionibacterium acnes.
